3. Picture from Graham Lees for sale.

The latest item to arrive to assist our fundraising campaign is this painting of Dunedin Box Car No. 11, kindly donated by Graham Lees from Western Australia. Graham is a well known painter of (mainly) Australian tram scenes and the sale of his paintings have contributed greatly to the coffers of his home museum, PETS - the Perth Electric Tramway Society, located at Whiteman Park.

This painting, based on a photograph by Mal Rowe taken in September 2010, after the first Christchurch Earthquake, shows No.11 passing the since badly damaged Christ Church Cathedral, Cathedral Square.

Graham emailed these comments when we thanked him for his generous donation of the painting: "To start with, you are most welcome to have this painting as it goes a little way towards saying thanks to the wonderful people of Christchurch who, immediately after the earthquake, assisted my son-in-law so kindly when he could not return to his hotel. He was in town for the medical conference and decided to walk to the airport with a colleague to see if they could get a flight back to Melbourne. On hearing the airport was closed, they tried to rent a car and someone gave them a lift to a rental shop who still had some vehicles. At all times, he says, the people were most helpful and caring. Fortunately he was unharmed but still has strong memories of the event."
